Mentoring for middle school students to gain and expand skills in computer technology. Open to all students, but activities are designed primarily to engage girls. District-wide, with new sites to be opened at Sherman and Blackhawk Middle Schools. Partnership with UW-Madison.

District Wide High School Students


A 4-year pre-college technology access and training program for minority and disadvantaged students. Participants are selected at the end of 8th grade for participation throughout high school. Funds will support mentoring and case managing activities for 30 students. Partnership with UW-Madison.

Franklin and Randall Elementary School


A series of dinner meetings for Southeast Asian, Latino and African-American famillies, designed to empower parents of color to participate more fully in their children's education. Parent meetings, a curriculum for children and joint parent-child activities are planned.

A consultant will work with the sixth grade teachers and students in developing two classes per month focused on historical and cultural information about the African-American experience in American society.

Baseline Study of Fallow Field Adjacent to School
Forest Spring Harbor Middle School


This project will support the work of 240 students at Spring Harbor Environmental Magnet Middle School, in establishing a baseline record on 100 recently acquired acres of farmland adjacent to the School Forest and monitoring changes to the ecosystems of the site, as they are restored.

Elvehjem Elementary & District-wide Project


Support for printing and distribution of a book using the concepts of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture to teach the Standards for Visual Arts of the 4th grade curriculum. The book will be distributed to all Madison elementary schools, in conjunction with staff development for art teachers and 4th grade teachers.

Grow Our Own Principals
District-wide


Plans for future school leadership by providing an authentic leadership experience through a year-long internship, under the supervision of master principals from several schools. This project, in collaboration with the UW-Madison, offers on-the-job experience, portfolio development, action research and university credit.

Memorial Neighborhoods Block Council Mini-Grants
Memorial High School


In cooperation with the Edgewood College Center for Democracy in Action, the Memorial Neighborhoods, A Smaller Learning Communities initiative, will provide mini-grants of $100 each to Neighborhood Block Councils, service-oriented student government units. The mini-grants will serve as "seed money" for community-building activies, events, and projects.

These funds are used by school nurses throughout the district as "last resort" funding for children who have specific health needs that are not covered by insurance.

West High School


Madison West High School has one of the most successful science Olympiad teams in the country. A generous anonymous donor helped to fund their expenses using the Foundation as a vehicle for making the gift.
