Sandburg Elementary was one of two schools chosen to receive the FMPS “We Can Do It” grant to enhance current efforts to close the achievement gap and improve student achievement. The school will be awarded $200,000 annually for the next three years to accelerate their efforts. The grant is based on the book “How It’s Being Done” by Karin Chenoweth which explores how high-poverty elementary schools have significantly closed and even eliminated the achievement gap.
Staff at Sandburg Elementary will adopt new strategies to more rapidly close the achievement gap for students living in poverty, fostering improved teacher collaboration and strong personal relationships with struggling students. Committed to results, FMPS and Sandburg staff are excited to show that all students can succeed when their needs are effectively addressed.
