Chávez Elementary School Funds will be used to purchase a Casio XJ-M140 projector.  This coupled with other components will enable the creation of another interactive white board station which will give more students access to an interactive and contemporary way of learning.  More students will be able to seek information, see demonstrations and interact with their peers using technology.  $890
Cherokee Middle School Funds will be used to insure that all students who want yearbooks will have them, regardless of the ability to purchase one. $436
Funds will be used to establish “Gotcha You” which provides a process for 6th graders to be ‘caught’ engaging in positive behaviors by school staff and rewarded for their Above the Line behavior. $800
Funds will be used for an intensive “Emergent Spanish” course for Cherokee faculty and other Cherokee community adults. $1,000

Gompers Elementary

School

Funds will be used toward the improvement of the school entrance.  Students will participate as part of their science unit as perennial plants and bulbs will be added with the goal of attracting native pollinators, birds and butterflies. $205
Funds will be used to purchase books that will be used in conjunction with free online “Moodle with your Noodle” literature program targeted at the 38% of 4th and 5th graders reading above grade level. $100
Funds will be used toward the purchase of MP3 players which will be used to help accelerate student reading abilities. $250

Kennedy Elementary School Funds will be used to purchase two iPads to be used to target small-group literacy intervention, small-group math intervention and general research in the 4/5 classrooms. $359
Funds will be used to purchase two flip cameras which will be used with existing presentation stations to record student discussions in reading groups, writing conferences, and math problem-solving groups. $359
Lake View Elementary Funds will be used toward The Figureheads Artist-in-Residency which will result with an original song the school will use at monthly assemblies to promote positive behavior and acceptance of all children. $469
Funds will be used in support of the second grade service learning project as part of their Africa unit.  Students will communicate with their peers in Africa, building relationships and collecting pens for the students in Africa. $135
Funds will be used toward the “We are Hmong” project which will provide school-wide exposure to Hmong music, food, stories and language. $250

Lindbergh Elementary School Funds will be used to increase student engagement and foster a sense of belonging through the creation of a t-shirt that is unique to Lindbergh Elementary. $686

Marquette Elementary School Funds will be used to purchase books at all reading levels for genres and content areas that are currently lacking, enabling staff to meet the needs of diverse groups of learners. $1,087
Memorial High School Funds will be used for the purchase of a Tetrix Base Robotics Kit which will enable more students to participate in the First Tech Challenge and will support the Science Club’s work to expand the range of STEM related experiences available. $553

Mendota Elementary School The Mendota PTO contributed an additional $1,658 enabling Mendota to award 20 grants for a variety of projects including the purchase of books for reading recovery students to take home and keep, voice recorders to accelerate reading instruction for struggling readers, frames to display student work in the community, and headphones to use with keyboards in music class. $1,772
Muir Elementary School Funds will be used to support a school-wide quilting project.  Students will work with local artist Nancy Daly to create a large quilt “mural” which will be on display at the school. $400

O'Keeffe Middle School Funds will be used to enable participation in Youth Frontier retreats which are school-transforming days that have a long-term effect on engagement, behavior and motivation. $1,771

Funds will be used to enable students to work with a fiber artist and the art teacher to design a new Shorewood Shark logo and to create a clay tile mosaic inspired by Cat Stevens’ song Peace Train. $1,250
Spring Harbor Middle School Funds will be used for the purchase of a portable interactive whiteboard which will help to increase student engagement and improve creative and innovative instruction. $3,343
Stephens Elementary School Funds will be used to offer yoga classes to the 4th and 5th grades.  Instructor specializes in teaching yoga to children and will incorporate student ideas and interests as well as tying classes to units of study. $400
Funds will be used to support 4/5 weekly writing club which helps students develop writing skills and strategies.  Students will publish a book of their writing. $224
Funds will be used to purchase die-cut templates for school-wide use.  Die-Cut templates allow teachers to create games and other teaching tools that support the curriculum and broaden the language spectrum of all students. $400
Thoreau Elementary School Funds will be used toward Earth Day event featuring 40 stations meant to help students better understand their connections to the outdoor surroundings at the school and how their actions affect the local community and the world. $200
Funds will be used to establish a lunch-hour book club meant to foster a love for reading outside the classroom. $500
Funds will be used to establish a rain garden to complement the existing vegetable garden and further the outdoor classroom experience.  Students will be able to conduct soil analysis, slope and water volume calculations, plant selection and garden layout. $1,000
Funds will be used to enable students to participate in Terrace Town, complementing social studies curriculum.  Students will work together to create and build rural, urban and suburban communities. $690

Van Hise Elementary School Funds will be used to establish a “Spanish for Spanish Speakers” after school club meant to help students maintain their home language while developing their English skills. $717
West High School Funds will be used to purchase a portable projector and speakers to be used with a Foreign Language Department laptop, to create a mobile technology station enabling language to be experienced as a live and real entity, engaging students on a higher level. $600
Funds will be used to purchase two netbooks which will be used in the Pathways class that offers an opportunity for credit recovery through the use of online and Guided Study courses. $600
Funds will be used to support the United Nations Club which focuses on learning the skills of debate, compromise and conflict resolution. $233
Wright Middle School Funds will be used to purchase digital cameras which will enable the school to showcase positive projects and activities through the district and school websites, school newsletter, and yearbook. $350
Funds will be used for staff development, enabling staff to look at violence in schools in terms of social injustice and barriers to access.  Staff will examine peer mediation, conflict resolution and creating active citizens who are agents for change. $470
