MADISON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION MAKES GIFT TO BUILD SCHOOL ENDOWMENTS

The Madison Community Foundation made a $90,000 gift to the Foundation for Madison's Public Schools to bring the total of the Individual School Endowments to over $1 million! The Madison Community Foundation Board of Governors and Chair George Nelson made this gift to recognize the successful efforts of parents, staff and the community to raise funds for these endowments as well as the vision that John Taylor had when he provided the initial Clay-Price Fund grant to this initiative.

The interest from the endowment funds enables the schools to make annual grants for projects that may not otherwise be possible. In the fall of 2008, over $46,000 will be available to 47 schools for grants - as the endowments grow, this amount will grow as well! Funding for artists in residence, family math nights, playground equipment and science software were just a few of the grants made to enhance the learning experiences at the schools.

Beginning December 1, 2006, the Madison Community Foundation gift provided 50 cents for every $1 raised (up to $3,750) for each school's endowment. When met, this results in over $5,000 being raised for every school! All Forty-eight schools have met this match, please check the link on the left for the results.   As of June 30, 2008, a total amount of $1.45 million has been raised for the 48 School Endowment Funds (See ISEI page for details).
