At Muir Elementary, the income from their FMPS school endowment fund was used to support a school-wide quilting project. Local artist Nancy Daly worked with students to make a large quilt “mural” for display at the school. This effort by the entire school to create a lasting piece of art fostered a sense of community among students.
Muir Elementary also used income from their endowment fund to support literacy through its purchase of MP3 players and headphones for classroom use. Students will use the MP3 players to listen to taped stories while following along in a book. Through the use of audio technology, Muir Elementary is giving students the opportunities to listen to more stories which will enrich their vocabulary, broaden their interests, and increase their knowledge base.
