Parent School Partnership at Nuestro Mundo Elementary

Nuestro Mundo 2013

Through a 2012-13 Foundation grant, Nuestro Mundo Elementary School created a Parent School Partnership program, which invited parents of minority and economically disadvantaged students to become stronger advocates of their children’s education. The project addressed the need to teach Spanish-speaking families their rights and responsibilities and their opportunity to narrow the educational disparities that exist for their children. The six-week training series provided parents a better understanding of how to help their children advance academically and culminated with a field trip to UW-Whitewater to tour the campus and learn about financial aid and other educational opportunities.  Parent School Partnership achieved just what the name suggests, encouraging parents to become full partners in their child’s education.
